The weather has been pretty up and down lately, cold days mixed with sunny skies, but I guess it’s better than living anywhere else outside of NY. One of the beauties of a NYC winter day is that you can’t keep people inside for too long without going a bit stir crazy. There’s simply too much to do We are currently working on a few new shows and will announce them soon. But currently My Sinatra has had really nice crowds for Cary Hoffman’s piece about an obsession with his role model whom he sounds awfully similar to. It’s playing for three more performances at The Triad, so check it out by going to mysinatra.com or for tickets go to www.smarttix.com. It’s definitely a date night show. Speaking of having a date, Lillias White will perform her Valentine’s Day show at Midnight on the 14th at The Iridium jazz club in Times Square. It’s going to be a phenomenal Jazz performance like you’ve never seen before. Tickets can be found at www.ticketweb.com for only $25.00! The change in weather and spirit of NY also make me appreciate how easy we sometimes have it. So on a personal note, I encourage everyone to donate money, clothes, or other goods to the Haiti fund that you like best. If you haven’t stepped up to the plate yet, there is still time. The Triad is producing an amazing fundraising show Monday, January 31st at 7:30pm. All proceeds go to The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and The American Red Cross, and it only costs you $10.00! Lillias will be singing with other Tony Winners Adriane Lenox and LaChanze. There are many other Broadway stars including Tyrick Wiltez Jones, Titus Burgess, and Kecia Lewis-Evans. For reservations please go to www.triadnyc.com

Moves Uptown to The Triad

NEW YORK, January 7, 2010 – Cary Hoffman will take his highly acclaimed show My Sinatra, A Musical Memoir About Obsession, to The Triad uptown. After several successful and critically acclaimed workshops at the Algonquin Theater downtown, the show will make its official Triad debut on Friday, January 15th at 9:00 PM for a four performance limited run.

My Sinatra, A Musical Memoir About Obsession, is the very true story about one man’s love and idolization of Frank Sinatra, one of the world’s greatest performers of all time. The show takes us on a journey that asks us to aspire and believe in the magic and power of entertaining and questions the need many of us have to be somebody else. Co-written by Cary Hoffman and Paul Linke (“…But First Sammy Shore”) with musical direction by Tex Arnold, this reality musical, which originally appeared as a special on PBS, specifically follows Hoffman’s real life, that of a Long Island teenager growing up in the 1940’s, who obsesses over the legendary Frank Sinatra. After the death of two fathers and the support of his three studio musician uncles (who played with Sinatra), the persona of Sinatra takes on a whole new meaning for Cary throughout his life and career. My Sinatra…is Cary’s story, where he bares his soul through personal anecdotes, humor, and some of the songs made famous by Sinatra and shares how his obsession affected his life.

The multi-talented Cary Hoffman has been performing the music of Frank Sinatra for the past eight years all over the world inspiring The New York Times to call him, “Dead on.” In addition to life as a performer, Hoffman is currently one of the Executive Producer of the new TNT series Men of a Certain Age starring Ray Romano and Scott Bakula. Previously Hoffman worked as a successful songwriter/producer including the off-Broadway musical “What’s A Nice Country Like Yours, Doing in a State Like This” (starring Martin Short and Betty Buckley), two top twenty Country hits and some of the most well known jingles. As a personal manager, Cary discovered the great R&B crooner Luther Vandross and also manages Mike Royce (co-created Men of a Certain Age), Tom Hertz (Creator of Rules of Engagement on CBS). Cary was also the owner of Stand-Up NY Comedy Club, a landmark club on the Upper West Side for the past 22 years.

My Sinatra, A Musical Memoir About Obsession plays at The Triad Theater, 158 West 72 Street. Friday, January 15th 9pm, Tuesday, January 26th 7pm, Saturday, February 13th 7pm, Friday, March 5th 9pm. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased by contacting Smarttix at 212 868-4444 or www.smarttix.com. The Triad Theater has a two-drink minimum and is a cash-only venue. For information about Mr. Hoffman and to listen to his work (you won’t believe your ears) please visit www.mysinatra.com.

Everyone says they can’t believe it is 2010 already here. I can’t believe it hasn’t come sooner. Last year seemed to fly by so quickly, and I have a great feeling that this is the year for live entertainment to truly impress, enrich, and educate all of us. I, of course saw several beautiful and charming films this holiday season including Precious, Avator, and Up in the Air. But I do believe that it will be the power of live events that will really inspire people to pursue their own creative endeavors. Broadway is having and will continue to have a big year. Fela! is going strong, as are our friends over at Next to Normal and Rock of Ages. With revivals like A View From the Bridge, Present Laughter, The Miracle Worker, and Promises Promises all opening soon or fairly soon, we have a lot to look forward to. Also Sondheim on Sondheim, Spider-Man, and Love Never Dies (the new Phantom of the Opera sequel) in the musical mix throughout the year make us think about how diverse Theater really can be. I’m especially excited to work on a great new Off-Broadway show called Brother Can You Spare a Dime. It’s a fantastic and beautiful musical review about the Great Depression and the hopes and struggles that permeated the entire country and the world. We are hoping that this 2010 brings you a year where you can commiserate with these notions, while growing more and more successful as the economy grows and grows, which we know it will. Take a look back at our new website (great job Josh!) as we have some new exciting projects and the return of some critically acclaimed ones as well.
